Take part in the sixth national CANSA (Cancer Association of South Africa) Shavathon by shaving your head or spraying your hair a multitude of colours for a R50 donation.

Or do what I'm going to do and Volunteer to be the shavee or sprayee at a Shopping Centre near you. I will be volunteering at The Glen Shopping Centre so stop by to say hi.

The national CANSA Shavathon will take place on Friday, 6 March 2009 (workplaces) and Saturday, 7 March 2009 (public events at shopping centres).

A bit of both. There is a time and place for both

Hot. You can always go for a cold shower or a dip in the pool. And I prefer wearing a few items of clothing rather than layers and layers of bulk that make you look twice as big as you are.

Cranks. I think its quirky and the food is good - although I havent' been there in yonks!

I love musicals and music concerts. I suppose I just love music... I can't stand opera - I guess I just don't "get it" so I don't appreciate it.. I do love the ballet though and I'm like a wee girl when the heavy velvet curtains open - my eyes twinkle and I get all excited. It blows me away and I just love being so close that I can hear the tap-tap-tap of their ponte slippers.

If money wasn't an issue - a Merc SLK soft top in black.

Toothless Wonder

Megan finally lost her first tooth this morning on the way to school in the car. Its been wiggly for weeks but it finally popped out this morning with no problems at all.

Megan was so chuffed. Kaylin looked at her, pointed to the gap and said "Toof Broken". Heehee

What is the toothfairy's going rate for a first tooth these days?

Needless to say our toothfairy drives a Ferarri and lives in a mansion in Sandton - Megan got R40 for her teeny weeny toof.

Conversation last night with Megan:

Megan: "Teacher was telling me there is a Tooth Mouse too."

Me: "Yes Megan. There is a tooth fairy and tooth mouse". (I grew up only knowing the Tooth Fairy)

Megan: "I wonder which one will come visit me?". *pondering pause*

Megan : "Mum, which one do you think is richer?"

Me: "Why Megan?"

Megan: "Well, I want lots of money for my tooth".

*Me trying hard not to giggle* (I instantly saw the half Scot in her)

Me: "Who knows Megan...depends on how good you've been. You might only get one rand or so and only be able to buy a sweetie or packet of crisps or something".

Megan thinking again looking a little disappointed...

Megan: "I think the Tooth Fairy has the most money"

A whole conversation progressed about where The Tooth Fairy keeps her money thats she's collected and what she does with all her teeth she collects. Megan thinks she builds herself a castle.

I just love the innocence of it all. Its fun to make up imaginary stories for your kids to believe in and having long and detailed discussions with them. Its awesome!

(Unfortunately it doesn't last long and it will come faster than I can blink - reality will do the disappointing)

Feeling Totally Despondent

I am feeling completely overwhelmed and unhappy at work. I am loosing confidence in my abilities and I am noticely irritable and depressed. My workload is humongous and I don't feel like doing it anymore. I used to take pride in my work and enjoyed coming to work everyday but I feel totally unappreciated which is making me demotivated.

Its making me less productive and totally ineffective in my work. I feel I'm getting no kick back at all from working so damn hard for this company. I get no thanks for my efforts andI feel totally inadequate. I can't do enough. I get no praise for a job well done but get crapped on from a dizzy height when something hasn't been done.

Yesterday when I got home I was so tearful, totally exhausted and so down. Last night I couldn't sleep, I kept waking up with either heart palpitations or a runny tummy...I feel like my head is going to explode. Its such an out-of-control feeling. I am not coping.

I just thank God for my boerewors and my girls. Without them I can't imagine where I'd be.

Got The Dreaded Call

Yesterday I was having one helluva day when I got the dreaded call from the girls school. Immediately I went ice cold and my heart missed a beat.

Kaylin's teacher reported to me that she had been pushed by a friend of hers on the playground and she fell quite badly. All my insides just fell downward!

They said that they'd taken her to Stienie (the Baby School's Principal who also happens to be a nursing sister) and she thinks she may have broken her nose! Its scraped and very swollen at the bridge and Kaylin won't let them touch her.

I did some low flying to the school (luckily I work less than a 1km from the girls' school) and when I got there she was sitting on one of the helper's lap with a frown on her face and tears in her eyes.

I immediately took her too our GP who is about 4km from the school. I was just hoping that one of the three doctors there could see her. I had to wait almost 30 minutes to see the doctor but by the time we went in, Kaylin's tears had dried up and was touching her own nose. I doubted then if it was broken.

We got to see the doctor who took a good look at her from top to bottom and confirmed that her nose was not broken just VERY badly bruised. However, just by the way, your daughter has bronchitis...oh thanx! So she's on antibiotics for her cough and tight chest and her nose will heal.

This morning I though she would have dark circles underneath her eyes and that the bruising would have set in from the fall, but she was A-OK and wanting to go to school. I drop her off happily this morning. No tears and waving me goodbye.

Gosh these little people are tough. I'm still recovering from the shock of "the possibility" that she was really hurt!

Puddle Hopping

This is something that I really enjoyed as a child (and still as an adult) and so when the rain came on yesterday I let the girls run in the rain and spash in the puddles. There is nothing more theraputic than spashing in puddles and getting all muddy.

They both thoroughly enjoyed it.

After splashing in the rain for 15 mintues, it was off to a warm bubble bath for both the girls where they had a good soak, scrubbed their filthy toes and made bubble beards.

A lot of giggling came from the bathroom.

Just What I Needed!

It was a very stressful week at the Homemakers Expo this week and I kept on saying to my work colleagues at the Organisers Office that they should send us to the Spa for a day in order to destress after a long week.

My wish came true - a colleague said she phoned our local spa to book her fiance in for a massage and was told that a second year student was at the salon on the Saturday morning giving treatments for FREE!

Well, I was on the phone like shot and got the last available appointment for 8am on Saturday morning. How lucky am I?

It was just was the doctor ordered. It was awesome...

A huge thanx to Nicole for letting me in on the secret and a huge thanx to my Boerewors for looking after the girls while I got pampered for a hour and a half!!!

Young Parents Scandal

Alfie, who was 12 when he got Chantelle Steadman - who was then 14 - pregnant, said: "I know I'm young but I plan to be a good dad."

In an interview with The Sun, the schoolboy from Eastbourne, East Sussex, he said his first night of parenthood was "easier than I thought", adding: "I think we'll be good parents. I'll have to work extra hard at school."

Both Alfie and Chantelle change their daughter's nappy and she sleeps in her mother's bedroom.
Chantelle, now 15, admitted she had been left "in a daze" since giving birth Maisie, 7lb 13oz, four days ago.

She said: "Alfie has been really good with her. He made the first bottle and then we took it in turns feeding her. He did the first bit with me. We didn't need any help from Mum.
"I didn't really get back to sleep. I just lay there in a daze."

She added: "When I was pregnant the police and social workers came to interview us and they decided that we would make good parents to Maisie. "Now we will prove to everyone that we can be, and give her a great future.

When Alfie is 16 he can come and live here with me and my family.

"We don't want to get a flat because we wouldn't have enough money and I want us both to stay in school to make the best future for Maisie."

The story has raised disturbing questions about society, according to leading politicians.

Homemakers Expo This Week - Dream It Do It!

Been so busy with the preparations for Our 16th Homemakers Johannesburg Expo opening this weekend at the Coca-Cola Dome.

Organisers had to be onsite on Sunday for a meeting and build up started yesterday. I was on my feet from 8am until 7pm last night. I had to leave at 6am in order to miss the traffic to get there too.

The Expo officially opens to the public on Thursday at 10am and its amazing to see 590 exhibitors building up from scratch over just 3 days. Incredible stuff...so many exhibitors have gone to sooo much effort.

Our Theme this year is Green Living and we have a Kids Roomz Feature Area too.

Miss Valentine

Before we got to school

Megan did so well walking the ramp today at the school's Miss Valentine competition. My heart was full and I was beaming with pride.

However, she didn't get a place in the final. When the final names were read you could see the disappointment on her face (her little lip popped out and her eyes got all watery). My heart went out to her because she'd worked so hard and was so excited about it. Counting the sleepies.

Afterwards, I took her one side and gave her a big cuddle and kiss and told her she's is MY No. 1 girl and that she is still VERY special and beautiful even if she didn't win. Not everyone can win. She said "Okay, Mum" jumped up and ran off to play with her friends.

I think she was more interested in the cake than anything else. This was a big step for us as she wore all GIRLS clothes, shoes and even earrings and a necklace. She even asked me to brush her hair before they started the show.
