Mottos versus Insults on the A to Z challenge is offially half way through now and today's letter is N
Motto - Never Give Up
I have this motto up on my Vision Board for 2012 to encourage me on my weight loss journey, amongst other goals I want to achieve this year. It's a brilliant motto to have because you'll all be successful in reaching your goals if you Never Give Up. It can be applied to most things in life.
and today's Insult is
Nigga
This is an awesome insult because its so contravertial. It's only black blokes and Pimps that get away with calling each other Nigga. Its so gangsta, innit?
See? It is not the same when a dorky white dude says it.
And because I don't want to be left out of this week's Monday Music Moves Me. I'm incorporating my A to Z theme into it, Niggas.
Well, Michael Jackson used to be a Nigga With a 'Fro. I guess all those skin whitening treatments, nose jobs, lip jobs, cheek implants, face lifts made him look more and more like a honky towards the end but he wrote a song about Black and White.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting...I can't remember if I saw you (quite the memorable name you blog under - I love it!) at my place, Life is Good, or if you were commenting on my post at the A-Z blog...but I wanted to say hi and thanks and I love the font you're using. Would you mind telling me what it is?

I hadn't heard that song in quite awhile. I mean, besides the week that the radio stations play ALL Michael ALL the time when he died.
@Tina its called "coming soon" - how appropriate! LOL thank you for stopping by and commenting. I now consider you one of The Plonkers
@J-Day its quite annoying isn't it? Why does someone have to die before they get all the REAL fame?
I find this to be one of my favourite Michael Jackson songs ever and I love how it fits into the theme of this post as well. There's way too much controversy over the word nigga in my opinion. So long as the person saying it doesn't actually hate black people (which would be stupid and irrational) I don't have a problem with it.
This is one of my favorite MJ songs. :) Thanks for sharing!
Springsteen with Boots On; Hey Pretty Girl Tonight Is The Night
Bill Gates is my future husband. I'm the only one who can call him "dorky".
m.
I don't remember this song by Michael at all. I tell you one thing, he sure could dance. What an entertainer! He had a lot of groovy hits.
Help, I've Gotta Boogie Fever!"
I don't care who says the "n" word. It is never appropriate and it makes me cringe ever time I hear/read it. It's not just a word. It's more than that. That word evokes hate and hurt. It was said with whips. It broke people and their spirit. With a keystroke, a whisper or a rap song, we're catapulted back to a time of oppression. We have such problems with racism in the States and when people toss racial slurs around like candy, it only perpetuates the problem.
So, to your point, it is pretty insulting.
@Cathy He shor did!
@RunDMT That's why it's called in insult. Running with the theme and all...
@Mark Oh no you dirrent! Don't tell me you fancy that wee Plonker?
@Waffles Amen!
I'm all for equality, and colour or creed should never influence any persons opportunities, but why oh why did Robertson's Jam's ever bow to pressure and remove their Golliwogs. They never did harm, and people loved collecting them. A black friend of mine with curly hair even went as far as sending a photograph of himself to Robertsons and asking them to reconsider so he could complete his collection.
I couldn't see the photos. Not sure why they aren't showing up.
I agree with DMT on the matter of the word.
Love that song by MJ! That man was just so talented!
Enjoy your week.
And I always think of GALAXY QUEST: "Never give up! Never surrender!"
Never give up, never surrender!
I don't like how they removed the "n" word from Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn and replaced it with "Slave". It's censorship and the thing is, Mark Twain is not alive to defend himself.
The dialogue is a window into that time period and how people acted and behaved. I guess Huckleberry Finn will always be a contentious read for kids. But I think it's important for them to do so anyway.
Um to your challenge. haha
Um to your challenge. haha
good motto!
and yeah, they are the only ones who can say that.
Never realized BB haven't followed you yet, tried it and it worked. Have a great week.
Love the song you so got me movin' girl, but only in my chair. On a lot of pain killers being my shots are still three weeks away. I might start hittin' the old keg soon! lol You know let me tell you what a wise lady once told me. I went to beauty school and my teacher said never NEVER EVER talk with customers about SEX, POLITICS, RACISM OR RELIGION Because everyone has their own opinion on them all! hmmm WHAT'S LEFT????? Okay, I'll be quiet now! hugzzzzzzzzzzzzz luv ya cheeks off.... WHY YOU ASK? CUZ YA GOT RED HAIR! LMAO ROFL... you're too much! Have a great day!
Um, what DMT said.
As for the song, it has been awhile since I have heard this one. I used to listen to Michael all the time.
I am doing A-Z too so come over if you get a chance.
