"Blether"
Pronounced: ble-thir
Definition : n. person who chatters incessantly; one who babbles on and on. verb - to engage in long-winded idle conversation
Usage : That daft lassie cannie fekkin shut up, she's an awfy blether! Translation: Women must use twice as many words as men, because we have to repeat everything we say.
And in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Scotland is Balmoral Castle, near the village of Crathie.
Gorgeous innit?
Soon after the estate was purchased the existing house was found to be too small. It was demolished, and the current Balmoral Castle was completed in 1856. The architect was William Smith of Aberdeen, although his designs were amended by Prince Albert. The castle is an example of Scots Baronial architecture, and is classified by Historic Scotland as a category A listed building.
Imagine playing footie on that lawn?

I have known to blether!
You've held onto your Scotish roots--just a bit. I never blather. In fact, I'm known for saying too little. Nuff said.
Ye canny beat a guid blether. The 'Big Yin' kens a' aboot that.
Then there's a great line from Burn's Tam O' Shanter that goes "A blethering, blustering, drunken blellum." 'Blellum' = an idle, indiscreet talker.
I'm surprised ye didnae go fir breeks lassie E.g "Ye canny tak the breeks aff a highland man"
Yer daen fine though.
Billy Connolly is a riot.
And the geek in me can imagine playing D&D in that castle...
I am constantly being called a blether but I don't think that's such a bad thing! I like your theme for this year! :) x
Mr. L says I "Blether," but I prefer to call it "spreading my wisdom."

Hey there, thanks for stopping by Smurfin' The Web. Have fun with the A-Z and hopefully I'll see you visit me again this month =)
Get me onto the right topic and I will blether on. Topics include video games, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and quite a few others.
That castle is beautiful.
When I get really excited, I blether. I talk really fast already, so you can only imagine what I sound like.
"Women must use twice as many words as men, because we have to repeat everything we say." This just made my day :D
Cheers!
Ah, that explains several of my friends! Blether, very cool word!
Loved the wee history lesson on Balmoral! Very interesting!
Great word--now I just have to find an excuse to use it! :)
I love your usage comments! And I have been known to blether. Keep it up. Love stopping by!
My uncle's wife (which would make her my aunt) is from Dunoon (my uncle was a sailor stationed at the Holy Loch sub base). We kids used to love listening to her speak, although sometimes we had no idea what she was talking about.
I understood, "Don't get yer knickers in a knot" and "Your bum's out the window", but we never figured out what she was saying when she called my brothers and I "daft blethers." Now I know.
I am so gonna kick that elderly woman right in the bum.
Thanks for lovin'me wee small doggie! He is a luv! I do love your blog! Zoe
Now that's a great word.
And that castle reminds me of Hogwarts, only more cheery.
We joke that my 5 year old talks incessantly; now I have a word for it. :)

Ah, so that's the Scots spelling, is it? We had "blather", as in "what the 'eck are you blatherin' about?"
I love Billy Connolly too!
That's an AWESOME castle!
I'll have to come back for more Scottish slang words.
Speaking of that women speaking more than mean thing, "they" think they found the bit of the brain that causes that, but I'm not remembering what it was. Darn, now I'll have to find that article again.

Omg I f**king love Billy Connolly. That was hysterical. The image of that old woman running down the wrong fork at 70mph never to be seen again. Had me laughing out loud.
Mr. Connolly is a god among men. My husband and I still quote his comedy special from 1990 w/ Whoopie Goldberg. It was the first we had seen him and we have never laughed harder. Then he did The X-Files movie and became one of my favorite people...ever.
