Was it a Bird? Was it a Plane? Was it a Meteorite?

Last night we were at a House Warming party, sitting around the open fire in the garden when sudden there was a huge flash in the sky.  At first I thougth it was lightning, but it was far too bright to be lightning.  Normally a sheet lightning flash would light up part of the sky - not the ENTIRE sky and not so brightly.

All of us sitting around the fire were sort of stunned for a while and then we didn't give it another thought as we all thought it was lightning.

Then today, I heard on the radio and read on iafrica that we had a Meteor 'flash' in Gauteng, South Africa.

Johannesburg and Pretoria residents have come forward, claiming they spotted a meteor in the skies on Saturday night.

People in Gauteng saw the bright light at around 11pm on Saturday night, heading towards the north of Pretoria.

"We saw this big green ball of fire. It kind of came out of the sky, out of the blue," one resident said.

"There was sudden flash. Like an orange stripe in the sky, followed by a very bright explosion where the sky lit up as if it was daytime," another explained.

Astronomers and scientists are still trying to find out where the meteor landed.

Ronnie McKenzie collects meteorites and said something like this is very rare.  "I would say it probably happens around two or three times a year around the world," he said.

Google says it was The Leonid Shower - meteroid dust from the tail of Halley's Comet?

Anyone got any pictures??

Neo's 6th Birthday Party

We didn't get rained out!  Megan enjoyed seeing Neo again and Kaylin planted herself firmly on the Trampoline and wouldn't share it with anyone.  She was on the Trampoline for a good two hours and was named The Trampoline Queen as she was bossing everyone around and dictating who can and cannot use the trampoline.  I guess the two hours on the trampoline gave her time to burn off all the sugar she consumed.

Balloon Games.
The kids tied a balloon around their legs and had to stomp and pop each other's balloons.  The one who's balloon was left in tact at the end was named the Winner and got a prize.  There were other games but we left to go to Mel and Shaun's house-warming party  (thats where the drinking comes in, silly).  But I was very well behaved and we just sat around a big bonfire chatting.

P-A-R-T- Why? Coz I Gotta!

One of Megan's old friends, Neo, has invited her to his 6th birthday party today.  Its a Bakugan Battle Brawlers theme so I'm sure Megz will be in her element.  Any party with cake, party packs and boys toys and she's happy.  I'm sure they'll have a jumping castle and things for the kids to do.

Its been crappy weather most of the week - lots of rain - so I hope we not going to get rained out.  If we do, we're on our way to a Mel and Shaun's house to celebrate them moving out of home and moving into their own place.  A house warming and Mel's birthday party combined.

Will post pictures tomorrow when its all we're nursing hangovers.
