Sunday was a gorgeous sunny spring day in Johannesburg and my big sis and I headed off to Monte Casino Outdoor Event Area to be a part of the SA Tattoo.

2011 South African Tattoo

Guess where I'm going on Sunday?  And I'm super excited!

My Skin 'n Blister (aka older sister) and I are going to Monte Casino to watch the 2011 South African Tattoo.

This year the SA Tattoo becomes a truly global stage as we welcome top international performers, the Lochiel Marching Drill Team from New Zealand, to perform alongside our finest local talent. Expect to be wowed by their spectacularly, colourful display of precision drill and marching. The SA Tattoo proudly presents local stars the Code Red Drum Corps, our very own Special Forces of drumming, and the Via Volcano Pantsula Dance Group. Watch carefully as the Code Red Drum Corps integrate precision and trick drumming with a creative blend of traditional, African and contemporary rhythms. Be transported back to the vibrant 1980’s with the Via Volcano Pantsula Dance Group and share in their expression of freedom and fashion of a bygone Sophia Town era.


We welcome back traditional favourites, the Massed Pipes and Drums and the Highland Dancers, as well as our giant South African flag, our biggest symbol of patriotism and pride!

Booking for the SA Tattoo (1 - 4 September 2011). Tickets can be bought via the Internet at Computicket or at Computicket centres throughout the country. Prices range from R158 to R345, discounts for groups of 10 or more and children under the age of 12.
