Drug Sissy

I’ve come to the conclusion that I would make a dismal drug addict.

This week I’ve had back pain from one shoulder to the other and it’s caused me to toss and turn at night and generally have lots of tender unbroken sleep this week. I can hardly turn my head to the left without a shooting pain running down my neck and back. I have no idea where I got this injury from? (Riaan said it was from wild dancing to “Walking on Sunshine” at a party on Sunday but I think he’s seriously misinformed.)

Yesterday, I’d had enough of the constant pain so a colleague offered to give me two disprins. She said that disprins also included some anti-inflammatory ingredients and assured me I’d feel better after that. Hmmmm NOT!

I’m not one for taking pain killers and drugs for any little thing. In fact, even if I do have to take a pill or anti-biotics for some medical reason, I do so at night before I go to sleep because I detest the effects. I feel woozy, dizzy, my speech gets slurred, I stumble around like a drunk and my mind becomes fuzzy and my brain somehow feels clouded. I hate the out-of-control ditzy feeling.
My point then is I’m a total drug sissy!

Instead of riding the waves of the high that pain killers give everyone else, I completely fall off the surf board and get tumbled and half-drowned by the waves and on top of all of that, every part of exposed skin would get scuffed and scrubbed by the sea sand leaving me raw and bleeding.

Pathetic or what?

Well, you know, perhaps it’s not such a bad thing that I don’t like the effects of drugs.
Its probably saves me tons of cash and brain cells.

Tracing Ancestors

So I've started tracing my ancestors via http://www.ancestry.co.uk/ and so far I've gone back to seven generations already and I'm so enjoying finding out who was who.

My roots are firmly secured in Scotland until quite far back. I'm in the process of going through 1812 censuses to find even more relatives. Jane is our maternal family name for sure. It goes back to Jane Fair born in 1800.

I've built quite a significant a family tree and can't wait to see if there are others out there that I can find and link to.

You should try it!

Are you Superstitious?

With a Friday 13th Study done with the aim of mapping "the relation between health, behaviour, and superstition surrounding Friday 13th in the United Kingdom," its authors compared the ratio of traffic volume to the number of automobile accidents on two different days, Friday the 6th and Friday the 13th, over a period of years.

Incredibly, they found that in the region sampled, while consistently fewer people chose to drive their cars on Friday the 13th, the number of hospital admissions due to vehicular accidents was significantly higher than on "normal" Fridays. Their conclusion:

"Friday 13th is unlucky for some. The risk of hospital admission as a result of a transport accident may be increased by as much as 52 percent. Staying at home is recommended."

Paraskevidekatriaphobics — people afflicted with a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13th — should be pricking up their ears about now, buoyed by seeming evidence that the source of their unholy terror may not be so irrational after all. But it's unwise to take solace in a single scientific study, especially one so peculiar. I suspect these statistics have more to teach us about human psychology than the ill-fatedness of any particular date on the calendar.

Autumn Officially Begins this Month

Well, in the southern hemisphere anyway...

Personally I think we've seen the end of summer already. There is a nip in the air and the wind is chilly. The evenings and mornings are cool so I think the leaves will be falling very soon.

I enjoy Autumn as its a season of mild weather (not too hot and not freezing your titties off yet). Sometimes you can have all four seasons in one day. The skies turn grey and its a time for rolling in crunchy leaves and the farmer start harvesting. Its the most popular season for weddings and

Autumn 2009 season according to Vogue Fashion, is full of black, black and some purple thrown in for us colour-lovers. Muted tones of brown, maroon and dirty green. Custom-made Jackets are big this season and welcome back the leg-warmer (Flashdance comes to mind). Due to the economic climate it will be a season of fewer fashion shows and the catwalk models will no longer be dominated by the high-priced supermodel. Times are tough globally it seems.

The seasonal sport for Autumn is of course Cricket where it was announced yesterday that Jacques Kallis takes over as captain for this season. Should be an interesting change...
