This bloke, Sanju Bhagat’s had felt self-conscious his whole life about his big belly. His stomach was once so swollen he looked nine months pregnant and could barely breathe.

But while operating on Bhagat, Mehta saw something he had never encountered. As he cut deeper into Bhagat’s stomach, gallons of fluid spilled out - and then something extraordinary happened. “First, one limb came out, then another limb came out. Then some part of genitalia, then some part of hair, some limbs, jaws, limbs, hair.”

At first glance, it may look as if Bhagat had given birth.

Thomas Beatie - Pregnant Man Update

Thomas Beatie, a transgendered American man who was born a woman, is pregnant with his second child, Discovery Health said Thursday.

"Pregnant Man," an exclusive documentary about Beatie's first pregnancy, is scheduled to premiere on the television channel Tuesday.

"Discovery Health presents the only documentary featuring professional footage of Thomas and his wife, Nancy, through the final weeks of his first pregnancy, the landmark birth of their first child and their eventual return home," the network said in a news release.

"Originally born female, Thomas, 34, underwent multiple medical treatments to biologically, socially and legally re-identify as a man. After marrying, the couple decided to start a family, but Nancy was unable to have children. Faced with this reality, Thomas made the unprecedented decision to suspend his testosterone treatments in hopes of becoming pregnant. Following successful artificial insemination, he gave birth to a healthy baby girl in June 2008.".

Beatie became an unlikely celebrity upon announcing his first pregnancy, appearing on TV shows, as well as in magazines and newspapers around the world.

Thomas Beatie, the transgender man who made headlines as the so-called "pregnant man," gave birth Sunday to a healthy baby girl, ABC News has learned.

The birth, at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon, was natural, according to a source, who added that reports that Beatie had had a Caesarean section are false.

"She's really cute, really pretty,'' the source told ABC News Thursday afternoon.

The source said Beattie was resting and the family was focusing its attention on the new baby.

Born a woman, Beatie, 34, who had had his breasts surgically removed and legally changed his gender from female to male, leaped to prominence around the world in April when the wispy bearded man revealed he was pregnant.

Despite years of taking hormones and living outwardly as a man, Beatie maintained that he retained his female sex organs because he intended one day to get pregnant.
