The Noughties Bangin' Blogfest

I told you a while ago about Dave Wrote This and his brilliant idea of having The Noughties Blogfest.

Well, Plonkers it's not too late to sign up and publish your noughties blog post.  You're supposed to post something from each year of the Noughties decade but you know me, I never stick to the rules.

After the euphoria of the Millennium, the world settled into a decade that, after a bit of dispute, came to refer to itself as the Noughties.  The name itself earns the award for the worst name for a decade ever!

Fashion
Crocs were invented and it became a world-wide phenomenon.  Yeah, those special shoes for special people.  The fugliest shoes EVAR! You don’t even have to wear shoes, trainers will do or anything that doesn’t make you look like a fucking hospital cleaner.
Ugg Boots were proof that girls only cared about looking like the yeti and loosing all the hotness they ever had.

Joke of the Noughties
The only way Heather Mills can redeem herself now is to find Madeleine McCann.

Movies
Paris Hilton’s Sex Tape was exposed on the interwebz *snore* and the Brilliant Borat was born.

Telly
Amongst all the growing reality TV shows, the brilliant Dr Who returned to the small screen.

Environment
Arguably, the most important thing that  happened to clubbing and restaurants during the Noughties, was the smoking ban. Venues without the option of being able to provide a smoking area suffered to the point of closure and club nights were changed forever.  Talk about pissing on our battery and killing the vibe?

Technology
2004 saw the creation of Facebook.
In the noughties it was reported that there are more blogs in the world than people!
iPod and Kindle were born.

Music
Top Of The Pops died from lack of interest
Alicia Keyes and Dido were huge back in 2001
2005 saw Nickelback release their bangin' song Rock Star!
2003 was the release of "Elephant" by The White Stripes and Jack White killed Seven National Army at the Grammys.  His electric yowl aimed at everyone "from the Queen of England to the hounds of hell".

Name The Decade.

Every decade has had a "nick name" and has been famous for something:

So, I love the Charlston dancing, six inch cigarette holders and the classic model T of the Roaring Twenties,

The funky fashion and hats of the Thrillin' Thirties, which also gave us Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz and the ridiculous Plus Fours.

The glamourous Hollywood hairstyles of the Retro Forties, the time where Anne Frank went into hiding and they invented the Slinky toy.

Elivs and the Fifties saw the Cold War and the popularity of roaring V8 cars with bench seats and bold diners.  Hoola Hoops and girls with wide skirts and bobby socks and guys with their Brille Cream and leathers.  The first ever Grammy Awards.

Then came the awesome music festivals of the Swinging Sixties where the drugs came easy and cheap and the skirts were super short.  The decade of the Baby Boomers and the first man on the moon.

It was followed by the Hippy Seventies where Feminism became fashionable and was also known as the woman's decade, Margaret Thatcher ruled politics, disco was king, trousers were bell-bottomed and everyone's hair was long.

The Eighties was over-sized shoulder pads and the Rubik Cube.  It was the time of Haley's Commet and the falling of the Berlin Wall.  Madonna and Duran Duran.  It was the decade of women power dressing, the spiral perm and BIG hair.

The Nineties showed us movies including Wayne's World and Mrs Doubtfire.  The Spice Girls were "it"  and made the union jack dress famous.  We wore baggy jeans and fanny packs.  Reece's Crunchy Cookie cups and Donkey Kong.  Teletubbies and Pound Puppies.  Everything was "Slammin'!" and Tony Danza was hawt.

The Nougties followed with Y2K and the millenium celebrations.  Irritating mobile ringtones and You Tube and Twitter. The Sopranos, all things social networking, information overload, 9/11 and the credit crunch.  Mac outrated PC and a global recession.

What do you think this decade will be called and what do you think it will be famous for?

Which has been your favourite decade and what sticks in your mind for each one?
