"The Artist" was the big winner at last night's Oscars, winning five Academy Awards including best picture and becoming the first silent film to triumph at the Academy Awards since the original Oscar ceremony 83 years ago.

The black and white film - which tells the tale of an old-Hollywood love story - was named Best Picture, while its star Jean Dujardin took Best Actor and Michel 

Hazavanicius took home the award for Best Director.

Accepting the Best Actor accolade, first-time nominee Jean, 39 - who saw off stiff competition from Hollywood stalwarts Brad Pitt and George Clooney - gushed: "I love your country. So many of you here tonight have inspired me."
The film also scooped the awards for Best Costume Design and Best Original Score.

Meryl Streep wins Best Actress

Seventeen-times nominated star Meryl Streep was named Best Actress for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 'The Iron Lady'.

The 62-year-old third-time Oscar winner kissed husband Don Gummer before taking to the stage at Los Angeles' Kodak Theatre to accept her iconic Oscars statuette.

She joked: "When they called my name I had this feeling I could hear half of America going, 'come on, why her again', but whatever."

Praised by award presenter and her 'Mamma Mia!' co-star Colin Firth for being "unreasonably good", she thanked her colleagues and friends for her "inexplicably wonderful career".

Streep's win was her first Oscar in 29 years, since she won best actress for "Sophie's Choice." She had lost 12 times in a row since then. Streep also has a supporting-actress Oscar for 1979's "Kramer vs. Kramer."

"When they called my name, I had this feeling I could hear half of America go, 'Oh, no, why her again?' But whatever," Streep said, laughing.

"I really understand I'll never be up here again. I really want to think all my colleagues, my friends. I look out here and I see my life before my eyes, my old friends, my new friends. Really, this is such a great honor but the think that counts the most with me is the friendship and the love and the sheer job we've shared making moves together," said Streep, the record-holder with 17 acting nominations.

Another big winner of the night was Martin Scorsese's 3D adventure drama 'Hugo' which was victorious in the categories of Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects.

Christopher Plummer oldest Oscar winner

Christopher Plummer, 82, became the Academy's oldest winner when he was named Best Supporting Actor for his role as a gay father in 'Beginners', while Octavia Spencer picked up the Best Supporting Actress title for 'The Help'. Actor Billy Crystal hosted.

La-Dee-Fuckin-Da, Oscar Time is Nigh

Six actresses have been chosen to present the 2012 Academy Awards this year.

Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig from the hit comedy Bridesmaids will be presenters at the 84th Academy Awards.  I don't know about you, Plonkers but I thoroughly enjoyed Bridesmaids, especially Megan's character. 

'Megan: I'm glad he's single because I'm going to climb that like a tree".

I lauged but I also cried - a lot!  But then again I cry at fucking Oprah and Dr Phil.   I'm a blithering idiot watching films.

McCarthy received her first Oscar® nomination this year for her supporting role in the film and Wiig also became a first-time nominee for the film’s original screenplay. All six will be making their first Oscar show appearances.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2011 will be presented on Sunday the 26th of February at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.  The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

Don't forget to tune in to see who trips on the red carpet and who flashes their hoohaa or nipplette to the hungry papparazzi.  Och, you know that's why we watch the 5-day-long show.  Oh and to get a glimpse of Brad Pitt who's nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role.  Yummeeeee.

Oscar Nominations for 2011 Academy Awards are in and surprise, surprise one film dominates as usual to make it the most boring Awards Ceremony eva!

So be sure to tune in to the most predictable show on earth on the 27th of February 2011

After winning practically every award in its path, The Social Network is a lock for a nomination, and will probably win Best Picture, as well. The only film standing in its way is 'The King's Speech,' which just made an impressive showing at the BAFTA nominations and is classic Oscar bait. 

Wouldn't it be nice to watch ONE Oscars Ceremony and NOT know what is going to happen?



We watch, anticipating one of our much-loved celebrities to trip over her Versace gown and Jimmy Choos (that she got for fucking free) and perhaps flash a glance of her knickers down the 500 foot red carpet or fumble and make a complete hash of her acceptance speech and make us giggle. 


We wait for the Famous Fuck Ups because that's the only entertaining thing about the over-rated annual Ceremony.

Just imagine sitting through a fucking 25 hour show with pimped-up, moist-eyed celebrities thanking their husbands, mothers and dogs for supporting them and displaying their acting technique by performing on stage to be all surprised when their name is called.  

It's so fucking fake!

Switch it up a bit, Oscar ol' man! Do something different!  I'll bet you a month's salary that its the same 6000 boring old members that vote every year?

No wonder it never fucking changes - break the boring tradition...
