Voting Over...

Some of us stood in the queues all morning, and some of us lucky bastids waltzed into the voting station at 2:30pm in the afternoon and were in and out within five minutes.

This was definitely NOT our first time voting and naturally we learned from previous general elections that everyone wants to get to the voting booths early and get it "over and done with".  That's why A Daft Scots Lass, her Boerewors and Wee Lassies went later in the afternoon to avoid the Christmas rush.

The IEC did a great job with organising the entire process of the South African General and Provincial Elections. Everything ran pretty smoothly in our areas and the atmosphere was light and friendly at the voting stations.

The IEC have even provided us with an App to download and keep up-to-date with the results and news. It's a free download for Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Symbian. Go get it.

Twitter, Instagram and Facebook have been flooded with #thumbies and voting #selfies from the voting booths and its been awesome to witness the patriotism of all our fellow South Africans.

We patiently await the outcome of it all...

Palm Beach

My Boerewors recently surprised me with an early birthday present - an air ticket and car hire to go and see my mum and dad - who live over 700km away on the Natal South Coast.  We couldn't afford for all of us to go down so I arranged that my big sister go with me and we make it a Morris family reunion.

It was fabulous.

It was bitter-sweet to see how my folks are getting really frail and old and don't want our help!

We had a lovely 6 days together talking about old times and hanging out.  It was amazing to give my mum and dad a cuddle and share the love.  Everyone who has parents close by, NEVER complain about them.  You are truly blessed to have them in your daily lives and close to you. Cherish that.

Voting Fever

So, Wednesday we get the day off work to go and vote in the 2014 South African general elections to elect a new National Assembly as well as new provincial legislatures in each province.

Final rallies are happening all over the country and the political parties are meeting anywhere and everywhere.  The commercials are splattered all over the television and social media.  They are all working damn hard to fight for our votes.

The elections this year commemorates South Africa’s 20th anniversary as a democratic country.

South Africa as a country has progressed over the last 20 years since breaking the chains of apartheid in 1994.

Expats overseas got to brave the queues today, but Wednesday it's our turn to make our mark and let our voices be heard.

I hope the queues aren't too long!

I survived the A to Z Blog Challenge

I finished the April 2014 A to Z Blog Challenge, every single last letter.

Here's what I learned:

- I visited over 100 blogs
- I am following a new 8 blogs
- My followers only went up another 7
- 12% of my visitors use iPhones, WTF?
- My visitors came from these top 5 countries : United States, Russia, Germany, United Kingdom and South Africa
- I detest word verification. Its my new massive pet peeve.
- Some blogs also require you to sign up with Google+ to comment on their blogs. I didn't bother commenting on those ones....how irritating
- My daily visitors increased during the challenge from about 400 visitors a day to about 500 visitors a day
- I didn't comment as much as I wanted to with my week-long Easter holiday in amongst the challenge.
During the week away I didn't even look at my blog....naughty, I know but I was on holiday.
- The list of blogs to visit was simply overwhelming, perhaps next years you should make it mandatory to select a category and have the blogs listed per category.  Bite-sized chunks.  Then the list won't be quite so overwhelming ?
- Most blogs had a theme, which was awesome and everyone dug deep into their creative pits and put together well-thought out and well-written posts.
- My new favourites Kevin and Ermie

Congratulations to everyone to participated and finished the A to Z Blog Challenge. It's not easy-peasy task.

Here is the linky to share your A to Z Blog Challenge Reflections Post

See you next year, maybe.
