A Rough Day

Kaylin went for her first assessment with the Speech Therapist on Monday this week. Two hours and R950 poorer, my wee lassie was knackered. All the focus and concentrating took it out of her and she fell asleep on the way back to school on the back seat of the car.

I dropped her off and sped back to work, knowing that they’d been pissed at me for taking so long. My eyes were leaking from being told that my wee lassies needs lots of speech therapy at least once a week as her expressive vocab is on par with that of a 4½ year old. Her interpretive vocab is age appropriate, she just needs help verbalizing herself and learning to form correct and full sentences.

Kaylin hides this very well, though. She hides behind her humour and dramatics or avoids you like the plague if you're pressing her.  She is not confident about speaking at all but rather uses facial expressions and sounds to get a laugh.

Kaylin is 6 and needs to go to “big school” next year.

I am doing everything in my power to get her “school ready”.  Her ADHD meds help but she also attends Occupational Therapy once a week (she needs more, but we can’t really afford it).   Kaylin is a happy wee lassie and oblivious to why she goes to “PLAY” at all these lady’s offices. She thinks we’re just visiting. I feel overwhelmed and forever rushing here and there with her. I can only trust that I'm doing the best for her as I'm not a professional in these areas.

Today at the OT, she suggested that I have the Neurologist do a cat scan on KK to make sure that she has no neurological nerve damage to her brain. Just to rule it out. This scared me. She said that she’s never seen a case this severe.   The fact that Kaylin battles to recall simple words, express herself in sentenses and follow simple instructions.   Kaylin gets extremely frustrated when she can’t do something or finds it difficult. She immediately gets extremely anxious, starts talking “baby talk” and pulls back. You can see the apprehension on her wee face. It breaks my heart.

It was a very emotional day yesterday.  I cried a lot.  Normally I just "get on with it" but yesterday I just broked down. I felt alone and helpless.

I'm praying we can out-rule it and with long-term treatment with the OT and speech therapist we can experience improvement.

In the meantime we are still searching for a suitable primary school for my wee lass.

Kaylin Gets A++ Diploma for her Eistedfodd Poetry Reading

A Daft Scots Mum was super-proud yesterday when I attended Kaylin's Poetry Reading for the Eistedfodd.

Kaylin has never participated in anything like this before. She's never had the confidence - up until yesterday. She blew me away with a beautiful performance and I would NOT have missed it for anything.

She received the highest achievement, getting an A++ Diploma and got such brilliant comments from the Judges.

Mummy is so very proud of you, Kaylin! You have come so far this year.

What's Up Doc?

Previously on A Daft Scots Lass.... Episode 3876 saw Megan and Kaylin entering life by way of vagina, which is as good a way as any to enter the world.  Wee wrinkled newborns with a loud noise at the one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.

Well, Plonkers, look at them now!  I can't believe how they've grown!  Wasn't it just yesterday I popped them out my hoohah?  Gosh, looking at how big they are makes me feel fucking old.

Even though I say that, I still don't see myself buying those white couches just yet.

Did you know that condoms aren't completely safe?  A friend of mine was wearing one and got hit by a bus!  I shite you not.

No seriously, for birth control now, I rely on my personality.

So this one is for the family overseas, including Uncle Jim that always stole my nose as a child.  Now y'all can see what my wee lassies are up to.

Day 21 - The 30 Day Blog Challenge

Topic - A photo of something at makes you happy

Being silly, my silly family members and all its sillyness.  Crazy is relative term in our family.

I love to make people laugh, I love to see them smiling and having a good time.  Our wee family love to be silly and do it often.  We don't feel the need to worry about what other people think about us being silly - thats just how we roll.

Our Motto:  As long as we're having a good time and giggling thats all that matters.  Live in the moment and throw yer knickers in the ceiling fan if you want to.

I also love slap-stick humour and hence I love anything to do with bloopers, especially people being stupid and getting hurt.  I find it hysterical and cackle like an old whore at Carry On films

A Daft Kaylin
A Daft Boerewors
A Daft Megan and A Daft Scots Lass

So, on Thursday I fly down with the girls to go to the South Coast to see my mum for four days. I'm not sure if I'll have internet access along the way. Only access to my blog will be from my cellphone. So I guess I'll switch on automatic comments posting with no moderation so that I can read all the published comments as they come in.

I will still try to schedule my 30 Day Blog Challenge stuff so that I still make all my daily blog posts...so that you don't get too many withdrawal symptoms.  Oh I know you're going to...I see the DTs kickin' in already...

Stop with the retarded hand gestures...its confusing! Just suck it up and leave a comment!
