Is it just me or are we the only country that digs up the dirt around election time?
I just can't believe that South African citizens would want to vote for a corrupt man like Zuma. Have a look here see what Peter Hitchens (who writes for the Daily Mail and has been shortlisted for the Orwell Prize) has to say about him. Then to counter this, read this one by UK born (now living in Cape Town, SA) blogger, www.6000.co.za.
Have you seen the press lately? Its a frenzy of parties laying charges against one another, slagging each other off, leaking of tape recordings of telephone conversations, prosecutions, blackmail and the accused making a statement that he is not above the law.
Its a circus!
How can we concentrate on voting positively and chosing a party that has our personal interest at heart to take us into the future of our country? Instead we are casting our vote to counteract the majority vote of another party? Is this "politics as usual"? or am I just naive? Perhaps thats just politics...
There is nothing exciting about this election at all. How sad is that? Its same-old-same-old and the predictibility of it all is sickening.
I personally do not care what colour our new president is. I have great respect for Barack Obama and what he stands for and the changes he's made so far in the US, but how can I be positive about a corrupt future president? If he is innocent and has nothing to hide, prove it! Make the tapes public...we all want to hear.
How can anyone in the right might vote for such a person? How much good will they bring the country?

I think its just politics Gill..but it does appear to be "dirtier" this time round?
our country needs STABLE HONEST and STRUCTURED leadership . S.A. is a society which has , in trying to correct the injucstices of apartheid , reeled uncontrollably away from a normal JUST society. past hatreds and past grudges have led to a system where 'human rights' are more in favour of the criminal than the ordinary citizen . the police are totally inneffective because their means of punishing criminals has been severly curtailed . IN s.a., you get away with murder , rape , fraud and reverse racism. by voting for ZUMA and placing him in power a very definite message is compounded in 'the people'...you CAN rape , you CAN steal 'the people''s money and you can be a racist and it is accepted . crime will rise to even greater levels than before. as a society we already don't stick to or care about basic rules decent rules - just take one example - traffic ....unroadworthy vehicles , unlicensed cars and drivers , reckless driving , speeding , Mum's not buckling in their wee ones , BMW/GOLF lane-weaving - all CAuSING DEATHS - and all the traffic cops do is 'FINE'. this is the template for the rest of our society .
