Friday Follower Mr Cool and a Shoegasm

Introducting Mr Cool aka Tom Tomoser.

By day is a Secrity Guard and by night he is serenading all the ladies in Omaha karaoke bars making them swoon with his soopa smooth voice and silvery locks. Tom is so smooth he slides up hill!

Tom dismissed the idea of being signed by a major label and instead opened his own indie label Lone Eagle Records in 1997. The first release from Lone Eagle was “Cool Smooth & Sassy” spotlighting a tenor sax session player named Joe Genovesi. Tom put 14 of his ballads on “Cool.”

A renaissance man, and a true desire to achieve the highest artistic quality inspired him to begin his musical career by laying a foundation to grow from.  His musical knowledge came the old fashioned way - he  studied.

It was clear to him from the beginning that he would need to be competent in at least 4 areas of the music business to build a rewarding and profitable career or business. The first order of business was to learn how to write music, so he studied music theory with a college professor that was also an accomplished pianist, and woodwind artist playing with two symphony orchestras and a jazz ensemble.

Tom is a true gentleman whose songs and voice reflect the lost art of chivalry.  His blog is full of interesting stuff and always takes part in Monday Music Moves Me bloghop.

Go give him a visit and send Tom some hugs and kisses and check him out on YouTube.

Friday Follower and a Shoegasm

/

TGIF Plonkers.

Today's featured Friday Follower is Cin from Cinnamon's Spicy Life. Cin is a wife, mom, sister, friend, lifestyler and all-round smart ass with a heart of gold. Here is what she had to say.
Let me be perfectly clear about one thing.  I have never been a “true” feminist, nor a beauty queen. And I don’t think you could be both at the same time anyway.  I’m sure that this is fairly obvious if you have ever met me, but I just thought you should know it up front.  When I was in the Air Force, my job was on the flight-line.  I worked on fighter aircraft.  Pretty much a man’s job back then, but when I entered the service there was a big push to get women into that field.  Just call me a guinea pig I suppose.  But I took the job and did it to the best of my ability.  I did not ask the other guys to carry my toolbox for me, or use “monthly” excuses to get out of work.  I tried to lead by my example.  I saw many women that did try to use their femininity to their advantage.  That used to piss me off to no end.  But men are stupid sometimes and they were easily manipulated by some of these girls.  Anyway, although not a feminist, I did believe, and still do, that women can do anything that men can do, with some limitations.  Now, on with the story.

Before I arrived at Randolph Air Force Base, the maintenance squadron had NEVER had anyone that they could enter in the yearly “Miss Randolph” contest.  All the “boys” in my shop thought that it would be a hoot if I entered.  And I fought with them about it, until my First Sargent asked me into his office to persuade me to think about it.  I told him that I would enter the damn thing, but if I did, it was because he really thought I had a chance, and that it wasn’t some kind of a joke.  He told me that they would be happy if I represented them.  So, I said yes.  I secretly was thrilled to even get asked about it. Once I have decided to do something though, it’s going to be done to the absolute best that I can.  I became obsessed with the idea.

The first stage of the competition was just an interview with the judges.  I dressed nice and used my best manners.  There were over 200 girls trying out for this.  If I didn’t make the finalists, I would have at least felt like I was in good company.  So when word came down that I had indeed made the ten finalists, I was over the moon.  I had a week to get prepared for the pageant.  That meant getting a gown of some kind, learning how to walk without falling over my number “tens”, and coming up with something clever to say during the final questioning of the judges. Things went bizarre from there.

It was the middle of winter, I was white as a ghost, so I wanted a little color.  I took a few bucks and bought a sun lamp.  One of those old kind that had a timer on it.  I thought I could get a little color on my face at least since I wasn’t that great with makeup.  Unfortunately, I sat in front of the thing while watching a show on t.v.  I burnt the hell out of one side of my face.  Oh my gosh, did that hurt.  And I looked stupid too.  And there was five days until the show.  I had to answer questions about the sunburn while out shopping for the dress.  I found one that looked alright, but not really what I wanted.  It’s always been hard to find a dress because I’m so tall.  But it would do. I already had an outfit for the “sportswear” part of the show, so I was set. Thank God, there wasn’t a swimsuit competition.

I knew that my only “ace in the hole” was the answer that I would give to the judges final question. For some reason, I was convinced that they would ask me what I liked most about being a woman on the flightline.  My gut told me that since I was the first one that had been asked to represent maintenance, that they would ask me about that.  So, I practiced my answer.  I would tell them all about how I thought women could be an integral part of all the fields in the Air Force.  That we could do the hard work just the same as the guys. That my technical school had prepared me for the hard work. How I was proud to serve and be a good example for the women coming behind me.  All that kind of jazz.  Yeah, I had that nailed down.

The night of the pageant came.  The guys from my shop were in the audience.  My Commanding officer and First Sargent were there.  The pressure was HUGE.  I made it through the sportswear section without falling off the stage into someone’s lap.  Then came the walk down the runway in my evening dress.  Well, as you can see from the picture, I forgot to take off my stupid work watch.  It didn’t really enhance the dress. And although I had brought a really nice necklace to wear.....I forgot to put it on.  When I got to the microphone for my last question from the judges, I was ready.  And then they asked, “Airman Jones, what is the greatest thing about working with aircraft?”  Perfect question right?  And I had my answer all ready right?  I could tell them how proud I was to be working with America’s greatest aircraft, how the responsibility for millions of dollars of hardware was entrusted to me and my training had been superb and I could handle it.  Did I say that?  No.  Did I come anywhere close to saying my somewhat “feminist” answer? Nope.  What did I say? Oh, I turned into the dumbest girlie girl you can imagine.  And I said, “ What do I like the best about working with aircraft? The pilots. And the way they look in their flight suits”.

I could have fallen through the floor right there.  It got a huge laugh, and some applause, but I felt like I had betrayed myself.  I think I was calling myself an idiot the whole way back to the backstage.  The other girls were smiling and laughing, they liked the answer.  But not me. Ugh I was so mad at myself.

Of course I didn’t win.  We knew it was pretty much rigged that an officer chick would win.  I was happy to have competed, but I got ribbed about that final answer for a long time.  And even now, when I hear that game show host say, “Is that your final answer”, I want to jump up and say, “No, I take it back, dammit !”.

Friday Follower #4 and a Shoegasm

Jesse over at NOT WORTH MENTIONING is totally Whack-a-Doodle and has one of the funniest blogs in Bloggerville.

Seriously, every post of his makes me either cringe or laugh out loud.  He fancies himself as a bit of a drinker and I love hearing about his drunken train trips.

Here's was J-Man had to say for himself.

Now that I’m married (to a WAY shorter person), I have no problem admitting to this past hidden, fashion accessory. My driver’s license says I’m officially 5’ 5”.

Truth be told, I’m 5’ 4 ¾”. A height that very much SUCKED when dating. I did one of those online “connect with girls” sites (rhymes with PlayDATE). When it came to my profile, I did fudge that little fact. I think I said I was 5’ 6”-ish. As guys, there are all kinds of things we can do to keep the “good looking” illusion alive when meeting face-to-face. Wear vertical stripes or dark colors for a slimming effect. Leave the shoulder pads in the jacket. Stuff like that.

However, it’s hard to fake 5’6”.

Best I could do was get there early, and be seated before she arrived. Then I’d do the obligatory half-stand when she got to the table (to conceal, yet make it seem like I was chivalrous).

Thankfully, halfway through my dating slump, I discovered the Richlee company (designers of elevator shoes since 1939). On the site you’ll find pretty much any type of shoe style. And they honestly look like regular shoes. Casual, dress, sports, sandals – they've got 'em all. The one difference being is that they have an insert inside to give you that extra lift. How much? It changes, depending on the shoe. They list the inch lift in the shoe description.

Back in the day, I had bought the Nubuck Plain Toes that gave me an extra 2.5”. Might not seem like a lot to you tree people, but that’s putting me in the 5’7” range – an inch past my imaginary height. I was finally able to fake tall. At least 'til it was a beach date.

If you do wind up buying a pair, there are two things you should keep in mind.

1.) At times they are a bit tricky to balance in. The insert tends to move around. It's sorta like walking in heels (so I’ve heard).

2.) The insert also weighs your feet down. Not by much, but after walking a while it’ll give you quite a workout.

All in all, Richlee makes a quality shoe that I'd totally recommend. A bit expensive, but then again, it's a small price to pay for a BIG 2.5 inches.

Friday Follower and Shoegasm

I am dead chuffed to introduce my new weekly feature - Friday Follower.  I have had such a fabulous response to bloggers wanting to be a part of it.  I'm blown away!  So here how it works.

I will be featuring one of my BRILLIANT followers every Friday because firstly, I want to tell you how magic you all are and secondly, give their awesome arses a wee shout out for visiting and leaving dazzling comments.

This week's Friday Featured Follower is my lass,  Xmas Dolly.

We visit with each other every Monday for Music Moves Me and through our love for music, we've become good pals!  Here's what Dolly had to say...

Tell us something funny about you?

Hmmmm Funny huh? Okay, here it goes. I was once a Go-Go dancer. Is that funny enough? I was single and had a baby I had to support and I got laid off from my job. I was a mess and worried up a storm.

After I cleaned out my desk I stopped at a neighborhood bar and as it was afternoon, there wasn't too many people in there and me and the female bartender/owner started to talk.

One thing lead to another and she asked if I could dance. The rest is history.

I never went topless got paid 30 bucks a night plus tips.

Thought I was kiddin' huh? I was 23.

How did you first get involved in with blogging?

My daughter is a blogger (NightOwlMama) I'm disabled and a retired legal assistant. I work from home now. She said I would love it and it would give me something to do when I wasn't busy.

Who is your favourite blogger and why?

I'll have to say NightOwlMama. She is my daughter, and I'm very proud of her. She really made her blog work for her and she has soooooo many followers and friends.

Have you met any of your readers in real life?

Yes, I have. As I said, NightOwlMama, but we're related. ~snicker~

I've met GlitterBabe. She lives near me and we had lunch one day

Do you have a favorite post?

I think my favorite was when I told all my friends/readers how I met my hubby.

"My future was a wrong number".

Why do I love it? Because I still don't believe my happiness could've happened from a wrong number. Granted he could've been some creep, but sometimes in life you have to take chances and I just had a gut feeling.

How did you get involved in Blog Giveaways?

My daughter hooked me up with a couple of easy ones to learn how. My first one was Uprinting.

You are a transcriptionist. What exactly is that?

Transcribing is when my boss sends me interviews of people in a MP3 file, and I type them up through a dictaphone. Regulars you get two days to type it up, but a rush is 24 hrs. I've typed up scientists interviews, Hugh Heffner, Sam Lay (famous jazz drummer) and of big corporate companies. I've also typed up nurses and doctors from University of Chicago and so many others.

You crochet.  What is the weirdest thing you have every crocheted?

Weird? Nah, nothing weird unless you call doll's clothes weird.

How has your diagnosis changed your life?

If you mean my Spinal Stenosis it would be a long story. I use to be  a very active dancer and in my husband's band too. I played keyboards and was back up singer. My husband is also a roller coaster enthusiast. We've been to so many amusement parks and coaster and four times to Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure. I guess I miss that the most.

I had back surgery in 2006 and since then I've also put on weight because of not being able to get around. I've also developed Chronic Venous Insufficiency which is poor blood circulation, but the doctor says she can't help me until I lose weight. Caught between a rock and a hard place now. Right now I'm taking shots to relieve the pain. It works for a month. I can get them 3x a year because of insurance rules. I'm also going to go to a doctor to see if I'm a candidate for screws removal. I have four and a plate. So wish me luck!

If your life was a movie...

Probably the Seven Faces of Eve because I've played so many different roles in my life time. Who would play me? hmmmm Renée Zellweger.

Now go give this awesome gal some love.

Now time for a little shoe shopping....  Rising Taste.com has some adorable shoes (and accessories).  Go pick up a couple of pairs of cuties, grab my button and linky-link up.  Don't forget to leave a comment to say that you've done so, and I can come visit and drool over your selection of Shoegasms.
