"Manky"

Pronounciation : mang-key

Definition : Unclean person or unclean act, disgusting. 

Pure mankiness is commonly observed in the hallways of a middle school, where broods of little people slide their sweaty digits across various bacteria-infested surfaces such as the gym-change room lockers, toilet bowls and door knobs.

Usage: Ye need te clean yer shitty toilet - it's manky mess!

Translation :  They once made a "Chuck Norris" brand toilet paper, but it wouldn't take shit from anybody. 

The Mull of Kintyre is the south western most tip of the Kintyre Peninsula in southwest Scotland. From here, the Antrim coast is visible and a historic lighthouse, the second commissioned in Scotland, guides shipping in the intervening North Channel.  So gorgeous even Paul McCartney sung about it.

L is for Loch Ness

"Lug"

Pronounced : lugg

Meaning : n. an ear, the organ that detects sound.

Usage :  Ye wee rascal, c'mere so your mirra kin gie ye a skelpit lug.

Translation: Tired of domestic violence? Go out with a Liverpool player, they never beat anyone.

Origin : Lug has been recorded with the meaning 'ear' since the fifteenth century, and one of the earliest examples is found in the name or nickname of 'Michael blaklug' in the Burgh records of Aberdeen.

One of the best known places in Scotland, Loch Ness is a large, deep, freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands extending for approximately 37 km southwest of Inverness. Its surface is 15.8 m above sea level.  Loch Ness is best known for the sightings of the cryptozoological Loch Ness Monster, also known affectionately as "Nessie".

K is for Keech

Happy Friday everyone! Today's K-word is:

"Keech"

Pronounced:  kee-CH


Definition:  The Scottish version of excrement, deification or better know as The Jobby or The Shite.  Also, the Scottish version of "bullshit".

Usage : I've often been accused of vulgarity - I think that's a bunch 'o keech.

Translation:  The definition of surprise - a fart with a lump in it.  A kart.

My pretty wee toon of Kilmarnock is my choice of Scottish town for this letter of the alphabet.  Surprise! Surprise!

My Big Sister and I

Kilmarnock is my wee home town. Killie is a burgh in East Ayrshire, Scotland with a population of 44,734, making it the 14th most populated place in Scotland.  It is also the second largest town in Ayrshire, where they brew the smooth Johnny Walker Whisky.

 "Jeely Piece"

Pronounced: jee-lee pees

Definition: The Scottish version of a jam sandwich.

Usage: Oh ye cannae fling yer jeelie piece oot a twenty storey flat.

Translation: Get me a crocodile and jam sandwich, and make it snappy!

Origin : Who gives a fekkin' rats arse? It tastes sooooo good.

The pretty wee Scottish market town of Jedburgh or as the Scots call it : Jeddart or Jethart, is a town and former royal burgh in the Scottish Borders and historically in Roxburghshire.

I is for Irn Bru

"Irn Bru"

Prounounced: eye-irn-bro

Definition: n. a Scottish carbonated soft drink, often describes as "Scotland's other "national drink" (after whiskey, of course) Its fizzy, it's ginger, it's Phenomenal! Nectar of the Gods and the ultimate hangover cure. I shite you not!

Fun Fact : Did you know that Scotland is the only place that Coca-Cola is not the most popular fizzy drink?

Usage: Geeza sook eh yer voddies 'n Irn Bru, Jimmy. Ah'd raether just hae the Irn-Bru.

Translation: You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on.

Origin: Irn-Bru was first produced in 1901, in the town of Iron Brew.

And the braw city beginning with the letter I is Inverness. Inverness is another city in the Scottish Highlands. It is the administrative centre for the Highland council area, and is regarded as the capital of the Highlands of Scotland. Inverness is also known by its nicknames Inversnecky or The Sneck, with its inhabitants traditionally as "Clann Na Cloiche" "Children of the Stone"

So my lovely Plonkers, today the 2013 A to Z Blog Challenge begins!  How exciting is this.  A much-anticipated event and bigger blog hope in Bloggerville.

“Aye”  

Pronounced:  eye

Definition:  adverb exclamation used to give an affirmative response.  Scottish way of saying yes.

Usage:  Ya awright there Jimmy?  Aye Ah'm fine.  how's yersel?

Translation:  Good morning my dearest James and I trust that you are doing well.
Yes, I am excellent. Dare, may I ask, how are you?

Origin: Old English ā; compare Latin aevum an age, Greek aion aeon, aiei ever, always.

And now on to the Gorgeous Scottish town or city beginning with the letter A

Aberdeen is Scotland's third most populous city, one of Scotland's 32 local government council areas and the United Kingdom's 29th most populous city, with an official population estimate of 220,420. Nicknames include the Granite City, the Grey City and the Silver City with the Golden Sands. During the mid-18th to mid-20th centuries, Aberdeen's buildings incorporated locally quarried grey granite, which can sparkle like silver due to their high mica contents.  The city has a beautiful long, sandy coastline
